UK Ministry of Defence - Custom Design
The Brief:
To design and supply a quick release emergency mount to install a Raymarine radome on the conning tower of all UK nuclear submarines when operating on the surface.
Requirements included:
- Meet and exceed UK MOD and UK Ports regulations
- One-handed, fast operation to install radome
- Integrate mount and radome into a single unit
- Single mount to fit current and new build submarines
Scanstrut Solution:
A custom made bracket was manufactured from solid 6082 Aluminium designed with an over-centre latch which would allow for the unaided single handed installation.
The designs were submitted to the MOD with Scanstrut consequently being approved and named as an official ‘MOD supplier’.
