The ultimate Vanlife Game-Changer
We're Jess and Marcus, and since January 2025 we've been living in our van full-time for 3 years now. It's pretty crazy when we look back at the amazing places, people, and cultures we've experienced. We love the freedom to live and work on the road with our two rescue dogs Rory and Jeannie. Highlights from our last few years of travels were 7 months of island hopping in the Canaries and 3 months spent exploring Türkiye.
2024 - Rebuild kicked off
After spending many months researching van conversions we opted to outsource our build to a UK-based company called Vanlife Conversions. We liked the aesthetics of their builds and they allowed us to provide a fully customised layout and features for them to build from.
After having the van built by them in 2020 and living in the van for 2 1/2 years in the summer of 2024 we returned the van to them for additional modifications which included all of the awesome Scanstrut upgrades. We also now provide a video consultation service to help others start their own vanlife adventures.
Why have an ATMOS onboard?
We kitesurf, SUP, and wingfoil so we have multiple use cases for having ATMOS installed. After spending some very hot and sweaty months in Greece we were actually using our SUPs less due to the effort involved in pumping them up all the time when moving between spots.
Installing ATMOS was a no-brainer for us.
Now we simply connect the hose and let ATMOS do all the work for us. We're currently back in Greece and are regularly using ATMOS to inflate and deflate the boards in some pretty amazing locations. We've even used the SUPs to do a pizza run from a remote bay into a local town. Having the deflate is also really handy to reduce the pack size when space is so crucial in the van.
Where to mount?
For practical reasons we decided to mount ATMOS in the back of our kitchen cabinet so access was easy from the sliding door. This also means ATMOS is entirely protected day to day and nothing can cause any damage to it.
I think a lot of users will likely mount ATMOS in the garage or rear of the van but ours is so full already with all of the gear we carry. We'd suggest people consider the mounting position we chose when mounting their own ATMOS as it's a very practical option.
The sliding door also has no major snag points like the rear doors do when they open which is important to consider if you're going to use ATMOS for a wing or kite. You can also pick up the extended hose for ATMOS to get your gear even further away from the van. For SUP we've found that the standard length is perfect.
How much power is required?
ATMOS just requires a 12v connection, and running the cables from our battery behind the kitchen cabinets was a non-intrusive way to install and get the power to it.
